-2006 Supermoto developpements-Youth Stream press release:
FUNCHAL, 22 December, 2006 – The growth of the FIM SuperMoto World Championship continues year by year.
2006 was the first season with the One-Brand Control Tyre by Dunlop, reducing the tyre consumption per Grand Prix, and giving an equal chance to all participants by providing them with the same material. This new racing formula made the Championship even more interesting, with gaps between the riders dramatically closer, and bringing the cost for riders and teams down.
The calendar featured many new tracks - another key point of the season. The 2006 FIM SuperMoto World Championship made its comeback to
, in Villars sous Ecot, for the Dunlop Grand Prix of France. The track in Mores,
Sardinia , offered a first class structure to the SuperMoto circus during the Dunlop Grand Prix of Sardinia. Sankt Wendel in
hosted another successful event, and for the first time the Dunlop Grand Prix ‘Le Alpi del Mare’ was held at the fabulous Kart Planet in Busca.
Athens ended the season with a scenic Dunlop Grand Prix of Greece in front of the sea.
This year also saw the birth of the FIM SuperMoto of Nations. The first edition of the “Olympics” of SuperMoto was well organized in Bishopscourt, , and was won by Team
(Ivan Lazzarini, Massimo Beltrami, Fabio Balducci).
The season ended in
Monte Carlo , with the 2006 edition of the FIM Off Road Awards. In the Salle des Etoiles all SuperMoto World Champions enjoyed their moment of glory after a hardly fought season, entertaining the public until the very last lap.
